Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
Face recognition is a powerful, sensitive technology that is easily misused. This Acceptable Use Policy (the "AUP") sets out the uses that are prohibited or restricted on the SightRadar — Face Recognition API. It supplements, and is incorporated into, our Terms of Service. We may suspend or terminate access for violations, and we may report unlawful activity to the authorities.
1. Prohibited uses
You must not, and must not permit your end users to, use the Service to:
- Conduct mass or untargeted surveillance, including real-time or near-real-time identification or persistent tracking of individuals in public or private spaces;
- Perform “in the wild” law-enforcement identification without lawful authority, due process, and meaningful human review;
- Build or enrich a face database from images collected without consent — including by scraping the web or social media. “Publicly available” is not, by itself, a lawful basis for biometric processing;
- Infer sensitive attributes or emotional state — such as emotion, gender identity, race, religion, health, or age category — from a person's face;
- Stalk, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against any person, or deny anyone a service or opportunity on the basis of face data;
- Process the biometric data of children without verifiable lawful authority and the heightened consent required by applicable law;
- Violate any person's privacy, data-protection, or other rights, or process anyone's image without a lawful basis and (where required) their informed consent;
- Engage in any illegal, fraudulent, deceptive, or harmful activity.
2. Restricted / high-risk uses
Some uses are lawful only with additional safeguards. For any deployment that can materially affect a person's rights, access, or safety, you must:
- Use appropriately high confidence thresholds for the decision at hand;
- Apply meaningful human review before acting on a match, and give affected people a way to seek correction;
- Monitor for accuracy differences across demographic groups, and document your lawful basis for the processing.
Face recognition is probabilistic — you must not rely on the Service as the sole basis for decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on individuals. See the disclaimer in our Terms of Service.
3. Platform integrity
- Do not resell, sublicense, or share access to the Service without our written agreement;
- Do not attempt to access another customer's data, defeat tenant isolation, or probe the Service for vulnerabilities without authorization;
- Do not reverse-engineer the Service or use it to build a competing model, and do not abuse the API through excessive load or evasion of rate or billing controls.
4. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations and may remove content, throttle, suspend, or terminate access. Where activity is unlawful or presents a risk to others, we may cooperate with lawful requests from the authorities. This AUP works together with the acceptable-use and prohibited-activity provisions of our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
